Additional Availability Stage

This optional stage deals with availability data other than labor areas and feeders, which can be used as a source of potential job applicants.  An example of data commonly would come from local job service offers, community colleges, trade schools, or other sources of people trained in specific skills.  Even your organization’s internal training classes can be used as additional availability data.

What is an Additional Availability Source?

External - An external additional availability source can include local trade schools, community colleges, job services, or other sources of people trained in specific skills if your organization recruits from, or reasonably could recruit from, those sources for a specific job.

Example: Your organization has a job group for ”technicians”, and applicants for jobs in this job group are actively recruited from among graduates of a local tech school.  You could then create an additional source named ”local tech school” and add a factor named ”electronic technician graduates.”  The data for this factor would be supplied from the school.

Internal - An internal availability source is usually internal training if the training is required or desirable for promotion/transfer to a specific job.

Example: At your organization, in order to move from Analyst I to Analyst II, employees must complete a series of training sessions.  You could then create an additional source named ”Internal Training” and add a factor for the specific training series.

Create/Modify Additional Availability Sources

Create Manually - This option will allow you to identify a source of additional availability (i.e., local trade schools or internal training) and then assign factors to it.  You may also use this option to modify already existing additional availability sources.  Complete the following steps to assign feeders manually:

  1. Click the Create button under the Defined Additional Availability Sources section.
  2. Use the tabs to select whether you will be entering percentages or counts (if counts are added, percentages will be calculated automatically).
  3. Click the Add button to enter the factor name and appropriate availability information and weight.
  4. Ensure that the total weights for all factors combined equal 100.00%.
  5. Click Save.

Apply From - Additional availability sources can be assigned to this plan from another plan where additional availability has already been created using the Apply From button (  ) in the toolbar.  This option saves time, but only works for job groups and additional availability sources that are the same in both plans.  If a job group exists in the current plan but not the plan you are applying from, that job group will have no additional availability assigned.  You can manually create and assign additional sources for such job groups after you have used the Apply From option.  Complete the following steps to apply additional sources from another plan:

  1. Click the Apply From button in the toolbar.
  2. Select which plan you wish to apply additional sources from.
  3. Click Ok.

Assign Additional Availability Sources to Job Groups

Assign Manually - Complete the following steps to manually assign additional availability:

  1. Use the icons next to each job group in the Additional Availabilities Sources Assigned to Job Groups section to display the internal and external nodes for each job group.
  2. Assign additional availability sources from the Defined Additional Availability Sources column to the appropriate node for each job group by using the Add button in the Selected Area Section, or by selecting and dragging the additional source to the desired node.

TIP: To apply the selected additional source to all Internal or External nodes for all job groups, use the Internal and External buttons in the Add All section.

  3. To un-assign an additional availability source from a job group, use the Delete button in the Selected Area section, or drag and drop the source from the Assigned section to the Defined section.

Apply From - Using the Apply From function to create additional availability sources will also apply the copied sources to the job groups.
